Mr Harold Lewis was the designer for the Kindness Shoe Co at Belmore, Sydney. He worked at Kindness from the mid 1950s until he retired in c. 1969. He began his career in the shoe making industry working for his father, Harry Lewis, at their small shoe factory in Redfern, the Vernon Shoe Co. After the company went broke during the Depression he worked in several shoe making companies before going to Kindness. He was born in 1902, his father Harry was born in England in 1867 and emigrated to Australia in c. 1900.

Archive, shoe making, paper, Harry and Harold Lewis, Sydney, 1925-1950

-1. Mounted black and white photographic print of a presentation dinner for Harry Lewis, the President of the Boot and Shoe Manufacturers NSW.
-2. Mounted black and white photographic print of the interior of the Vernon Shoe Co Ltd, situated in Elizabeth Street Redfern in 1925.
-3. Coloured watercolour design of a womans shoe on white paper, shoe is a tie up, woven leather pump with green, red and blue leather and a short stacked heel.
-4. Sheet of letter head paper for The Vernon Shoe Co Ltd with notes for a speech handwritten on it in black ink. The speech talks about the history of trade association in the shoe making industry.
-5. A sheath of typed notes on white foolscap paper. Titled: 'SYLLABUS OF TRAINING FOR APPRENTICES IN THE/BOOT AND SHOE TRADE.
-6. Colour brochure for 'Strakosch - Biel Pty Ltd' range of orthopaedic shoes. Brochure shows a woman at a table looking at a brown shoe on next to a pair of green gloves. Brochure shows various styles available in c. 1950.
