Tazza, electrotype reproduction, Elkington and Co., England, c.1880. Electrotype tazza or cup of gilded brass. The stem formed by three terminal female Hermes figures, merging with drapery below and separated by lion heads. The foot flares and then curves in convex form to the base, chased and engraved. The bowl is formed from two plates of metal. The outer is concave and chased with six medallions of masks and fruit surrounded by strapwork. The flat, central surface of the inner plate is modelled in relief with chasing and engraving of great complexity. Bordered by a wreath of leaves, the sides rise in a plain concave surface to the rim. Tazza - German 17th century; (Electrotype reproduction) relief ornament, classical scene; Height 71/2" (LC).
