The Australian National Antarctic Reseach Expeditions (ANARE) all-sky camera had been designed and manufactured for use at ANARE stations At Mawson base, onMacquarie island and at Melbourne, Hobart and Camden.
Sought by the Museum's Director in January 1960 as an example of Australian scientific progress. In June 1960 an all-sky camera mirror, was loaned to the Museum (L947). Following on from the rationalisation of the Museum's stores and the resolution of the status of early loans, it was decided to recommend the acquisition of the mirror for the Museum's permanent collections.
