Object statement
Flute, Boehm system, metal / silver plate, possibly Marigaux workshop, Paris, France, 1930-1959
Research conducted on the Powerhouse Museum flute collection in 1996, suggests that this flute is not from the famed Louis Lot Workshop (as initially thought), but that it is a mid 20th century flute possibly from the 'Marigaux' workshop that bought the Louis Lot name, or possibly an outright fake. The style of the flute is a silver-plated modern student flute. The mark is not the same as the real Louis Lot workshop. The lip plate appears to have a hallmark but it cannot be read. The lip-plate appears, however to be in silver plate so this hallmark may not be genuine.
