The device was used in therapeutic X-ray practice to measure X-ray dosage. It consists of a set of pastilles which are chemically coated so that they change colour on exposure to x-rays, a disc of standard colours with which to compare the colour of the irradiated pastille, and a protective black casing which also acts as a background against which the colour comparison is made.
