Photographic print, black & white, first class lounge or music room of ship Monowai, Max Dupain, 1948-1951

The photo shows the interior designed by Margaret Lord. Whilst this print is labelled "1st Class Music Rm", another print of the same view, 92/1304-19/8, is labelled "1. C LOUNGE". During 1948-51 Lord worked with the architects Fowell, Mansfield and Maclurcan on the refitting of three ships - Monowai, Manoora and Kanimbla - which had seen war service, but were to return to their former selves as luxury liners. [See Lord's account of these projects in A Decorator's World pp. 122-125. There are also newspaper cuttings in 92/1304 - 5.]
