The drawing is dated 12 July 1797 and the sketches done in the English county of Cornwall.

The drawings refer to the Boulton and Watt double-acting rotative engine which was set up at the Wheal Crane Mine in 1784 and later moved to Chacewater Mine and the to Wheal Carpenter Mine in 1797. All of these mines were in Cornwall, England.

On one side of the sheet of paper is a sketch showing the aerial view of a bob. On the reverse is a sketch showing the end view of the motion and guide for the engine at the Wheal Carpenter Mine. Sums and working notes can be seen on both drawings.
