Object statement
Radiogram, stereo, 'RR 126', with original documents, laminated wood / plastic / metal / electronic components / paper, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, manufactured by Brionvega, Milan, Italy, 1966
The RR 126 is an example of an audiovisual technology which demonstrates innovative interface and product design. It features bold, easy-to-read dials and a simple layout suggestive of the human face.

The design of this radiogram by the Castiglioni brothers was based on their maxim that design must restructure an object's function, form and production process. Following this maxim led them to reinvent all the products that they were commissioned to design. Over the latter half of the twentieth century, they produced a body of work that influenced product designers internationally, and their work is represented in public and private collections in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia.
The Brionvega 'RR 126' stereo radiogram was manufactured in Italy in 1966. It was designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and manufactured by Brionvega. It was based on their approach that design must restructure an object¬?s function, form and production process.

The 'RR 126' exudes high-tech and superb quality, while at the same time smiling at its observers through its playfully arranged dials and knobs, which form a face. The speakers can be easily hung on the sides of the body or the generous wiring allowed them to be placed elsewhere on the floor to best suit the listener.

The original white colour of this object has mellowed to a cream, but the contrast with the brown ¬?seams¬? on the edges still shows the original intent.
The Radiogram 'RR126' was used by the donor's family. It was a gift to the donor from her parents.
