Description
Decanter with stopper, earthenware/red cotton sash/cork, football subject, Diana Pottery Pty Ltd, Sydney, Australia, 1941-1966
Decanter (with stopper), sporting scene (Australian Rules Football), earthenware, slip-cast, with fabric ribbon. The decanter (-1) in the shape of a stylised football with a C-shaped handle near the top and decorated on one side in relief with a footballer leaping to take a high mark (in characteristic Australian rules football manner), the uniform of the sportsman painted in red and white team colours against the flesh coloured glaze of the football, the reverse of the football detailed with seam and lacing in low relief, a red ribbon with gold foil stripes on the edges is tied in a bow at the neck and draped over the seam and lacing side of the football. The earthenware and cork stopper (-2) is small and pie-shaped.
