Description
Microptic measuring machines (2), horizontal and vertical pattern and components, metal/glass/plastic/wood, Hilger and Watts Ltd, London, P.V.E, Woolwich, England, 1954

(-1) Horizontal pattern micrometer, incorporating a microscope, measuring cylinder, headstock and tailstock reverse adjusters, floating table and table elevation control, grey enamel and chromium finish.
(-2) Vertical pattern micrometer, columnar, incorporating microscope, height adjuster, wooden viewing platform, grey enamel and chromium finish.
(-3) Rectangular metal plate, silver.
(-4/1:24) Wooden box, containing standard end blocks for calibrating micrometers. Standard end blocks are cylindrical in shape, with smaller cylindrical pieces protruding from each end.
(-5) Black vinyl cover for vertical pattern micrometer.
(-6) Two tranformers, used with the measuring machines and lamps.

(-1) Moulded metal plate with manufacturer's name and location "ERW&S/ WATTS/ LONDON".
(-2) Two engraved metal plates give manufacturer's name and location. A small plate, fixed to the microscope, reads "ERW & S/ WATTS/ LONDON". A larger rectangular plate, fixed to the base, reads "MICROPTIC/ MEASURING MACHINE/ VERTICAL PATTERN/ HILGER & WATTS LTD/ No83988 MADE IN ENGLAND".
(-4/1) Carved into wood, inside rim of box "PITTER GAUGE & PRECISION TOOL CO. LTD LONDON".
(-4/2:9) Manufacturer's name and location engraved into cylinder top "P.V.E./ WOOLWICH/ 5751".
(-4/10:24) Manufacturer's name and location engraved on cylinder drum "P.V.E./ WOOLWICH/ 5751".
(-6/1/1) Manufacturer's nameplate, on top of transformer box, engraved "TRANSFORMER/ 4 VOLT LAMP/ W/ WATTS/ LONDON/ MADE IN ENGLAND".
