The screw thread comparator was used at Cockatoo Island Dockyard metrology laboratory from 1952. The dual scale system (Imperial and Metric graduations) enabled a variety of thread systems to be measured.

A thread measuring gauge consisting of an upper, middle and lower measuring bar, measuring scale (marked in inches and millimetres) and a cover/adjustment/tolerance adjusting screw. The pitch measuring coils, which are a separate item, are missing. The whole in metal casing, painted brown.
