Bacchanalian figure group, earthenware, Phyllis Craig, South Australia, 1945-1950
Bacchanalian figure group, earthenware, with the modelled figures of pan and a young woman set on a flat oval-shaped base, the scene consists of the naked satyr with short horns and tail in a relaxed pose lying front down on grassy ground, he is raised on his elbows with head turned and legs bent back at the knees, the maiden has long fair hair, a full flowing dress and garlands of flowers and is depicted dancing by his side, a low gnarled tree trunk curves at left of the base, polychrome glazed with the base and tree trunk glazed green and brown, the satyr figure is glazed in pale shades of brown and the young woman is glazed in tones of yellow, greyish-blue and pink . Note: Lyons list notes this piece as "a scene from a ballet".
