Jardiniere, earthenware, Maylands Pottery, South Australia, 1890-1895
Jardiniere, earthenware, wheel-thrown, of cylindrical form with a flat circular base with a bulging basal rim stepped in two degrees and straight sides which rise to a slightly everted rim, the two handles at upper body are damaged, the basal rim, handle terminals and a band encircling below the everted rim are stipple textured and the sides are decorated with a frieze of sprigged motifs (various trees, palms, flowers and figures), the jardiniere is two-tone glazed with a clear lead glaze over the buff body which appears as cane-yellow and contrasts with a cobalt blue band at lower body.
