Table cloth, Hedebo embroidery, linen, Roma (Florence) Field, Australia, 1920-1925.
Drawn thread Hedebo embroidery on fine, ecru coloured linen. Circular, with deep Van Dyke edge forming 16 radial points. Each point worked with a stylised flower formed of an inner circle surrounded by heart shaped motifs, all in fine buttonhole stitch with decorative needle lace centres. Embroidered and cutwork leaf motifs below and small eyelets above. Each outer point trimmed with scalloped needle lace borders. The space between each point filled with needle lace insertions all worked in fine white and ecru linen thread. Plain central ground bordered by a ring of 32 needle lace filled cutwork circles each separated by decorative triangular motifs and satin stitched oval spots.
