Object statement
Placemat, restaurant, 'Cahill's Tudor Hall', paper, Cyril Samuels, Australia, 1960-1965
Teresa Cahill and her brother Reg opened the Italian Coffee Shop, Castlereagh Street in 1933. The Cahill siblings visited the US regularly, introducing American style and service to thier expanding café chain. By 1960 the Cahills empire included 25 themed cafes and restaurants. Welcoming and cheap, Cahills introduced generations of Sydneysiders to coffee and 'continental' dining.
