Storage jar, earthenware, J G S Hoffmann, South Australia, 1847-1885
Storage jar (bung jar), wheel-thrown, in a traditional German folk pottery style. Cylindrical container with flat base, swollen sides and rounded shoulder which tapers to a waisted neck with thick and rounded everted lip. Twin line incised band encircles below the shoulder. Lead glazed with a glossy thick black glaze and with the glaze falling short of the base.
