United States company, United Canvas & Sling (UCS), manufactured this athletics hurdle for track events at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Titled 'Ultimate 505-5500 Automatic Hurdle', it combines aluminium tubing (3/8 inch thick and 1.5 inches in diameter), a wooden hurdle board and an automatic weighting system that redistributes weight when the height is changed. The hurdle board can be set at five heights: 76.2cm, 84.0cm, 91.4cm, 99.1cm and 106.7cm. The International Association of Athletics Federations certified this design for official competition.

This example features the Olympic rings, 'Fluid Energy' motif and 'Sydney 2000' wording in a silk-screen printing, and therefore represents the official branding that identified SOCOG sports equipment. Its blue and cyan tones were drawn from the Sydney 2000 colour palette, and were most prominent on television. Branding regulations, including the application of the Sydney 2000 colours and logos and the Olympic rings, were described in the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Image Guidelines, and were overseen by the SOCOG Image Department. Only official sponsors and licensees, such as UCS, were entitled to carry these branding elements on their products.

Hurdle events, including women's 100-metre hurdles, men's 110- metre hurdles, men's and women's 400-metre hurdles, women's heptathlon and men's decathlon, were held at Stadium Australia from 23 to 29 September 2000. They were part of the 47 athletic events of Olympic competition.
