Milk jug, earthenware, J G S Hoffmann, South Australia, 1846-1885.
Milk jug, wheel-thrown, in a traditional German folk pottery style. Squat cylindrical vessel with a flat base textured with string or wire-cut corrugations. Steep (slightly flaring) sides and a narrow flaring rim. Pinched pouring beak and small strap handle which loops from rim to lower body. Interior and exterior lead glazed a glossy reddish brown colour, underside unglazed.
