The Powerhouse Museum’s website had a major redesign in April 2004. The new design was the result of an extensive evaluation of user needs and usage patterns over the preceding three years. The previous iteration of the Museum's website was developed in 2000 and the Museum first had a website as far back as 1996.
The 2004 redesign was co-developed by the Powerhouse Museum and Massmedia Studios.
Since the redesign the Museum's Web Services team has developed, in house, substantial new content including the presentation of the Museum's large and diverse collection on the website; a series of public-facing blogs and other new interactive content.
The site is XHTML compliant and makes full use of cascading style sheets (CSS). It will look best on recent browsers (Firefox, IE6, Safari, NS7, etc) which are developed with these standards in mind. However on earlier browsers it will offer a fully functional text-based version which can also be read by braille readers and other assistive technologies.
